"outside" Tutorial showcasing...

the effects of white resist.
I was inspired to share this idea with you after reading an article published in Creating Keepsakes magazine March/April 2010 p. 25
They demonstrated the white resist effect by drawing a simple leaf sprig in white and spraying over it with green ink, like these Spray Inks by Tsukineko
In the completed CK project the leaf sprig grew enough
to form the left border of a double page spread.
The design was not pencil thin; I thought they used a crayon...I gave that a whirl first.

Also wanting to create a scrapbook page and
incorporate a Pixie Cottage Stamp:Hannah at the Pond by Sandra Hammer...

I stamped Hannah on the 12x12 card stock

and then additionally to make a mask.

Once the true stamp image was masked off

I extended portions of the scenery; more flowers, additional pond ripples, and clouds. Photo is angled so you can see the crayon drawings...

It was now time to start spraying ink color directly to the layout...

The effect of the white appearing was reminiscent of coloring an Easter Egg with a white crayon before dipping in dye.

As this is a form of 'show n tell" I feel it's fair to share all...the ink sprays out in thick round blasts...the brown came out very dark and heavy...

Yikes!
Hence take #2...
I got further, used less dark brown, more blue, but felt as though the cornflower sky was alerting us to an Oklahoma tornado coming soon, and poor Hannah did not need to be sitting outside in that kind of weather!

"THIRD times a charm!"

...Stamp again, and apply the mask...
Intent on finer details I drew with a white Sakura gel pen en lieu of the white crayon
followed by coloring with Stampin' Up's metallic pencils...
Aiming to reduce the dense color I tried spritzing rather than soaking...

Added more pencil color...
with an application of Copic on top...
fast forward past sewing mats, inking flowers and gluing flowers...
Voila!

Strolling around the page...a plethora of purple blooms...

A sweet title...
And an even sweeter girl!

I hope you are willing to break out your WHITE before Easter.
The creative possibilities are endless!

Full Circle...

Is the perfect way to describe my feelings towards
my latest creation for this week's

...a layout I made based on the theme "double play"
:using 2 images; one can be a sentiment
and/or this sketch by Jay Jay ...

I can't wait to see what you create!

Upload your NEW creations to the Pixie Cottage Challenge #28

for your chance to win Pixie Cottage Stamps

Why "full circle" you may ask?

The answer is that the very first card I made for a challenge showcase as a design team member used one of Eileen Gutierrez's images. Eileen, whom I've know for years, thanks to eBay and who I owe many thanks to for introducing me to Miss Michelle.

Merci!!!

This week I "doubled up" creating with

the rubber stamp: Birthday Boy by Eileen Gutierrez

and my Digital Image: Come On UP

I ran the cream card stock right through the printer
...voila...the perfect tree fort!
When I affixed the "image portion" to the layout I left the top un-sewn (pocket style)
-thinking I could add more photos, artwork, or hidden journaling inside.
When it came time to figure out what to do for the half circle shape in the sketch~ upper right it dawned on me to make an embellished top tag...good potential there will be more as I love journaling!

The title came from a pack of vellum quotes for boys- this one was beyond perfect...

Everyday spent with my beautiful blond blue eyed boy is a blessing!

Enjoy the little moments!

monkey see, monkey do....

...is how I would explain what happened this week when I was creating my Design Team Challenge Example this week for The Pixie Cottage .

The theme is "TRIPLE PLAY"

I went the extreme literal route and showcased the digital image

three times, not as a Valentine's Romeo as originally illustrated but as eager parents waiting backstage to bestow gorgeous bouquets on their little performer cubs!

*YOU do not have to use triple the stamp image...

it could be 3 flowers, for example, which works

really well with the trio cluster in this week's sketch...

It's up to you! Choose the sketch, the theme, or combine them both; uploading your NEW creation at The Pixie Cottage for your chance to win!

So, back to my opening statement about monkey see, monkey do...

"Mom, what's that?"

"That's this week's Pixie Cottage Challenge"

"Can you leave it up on the screen?"

"Sure."

"Mom, can I look through your stamps?"

"Yes."

"May I have a piece of purple card stock, a piece of green, oh, and do you have any ribbon that is green with white polka dots???"

Given all of that and black ink Sienna was set to create...
She chose the my Barnie in Spring stamp for her card...

Furthering the "monkey see/monkey do" morning. Sierra walks through the studio and spies the eye catching rays of textured sunshine.

"What's that?"

"Sienna did this week's Pixie Cottage Challenge."

"Can I play!?"

"Sure. Here's the sketch and the theme is 'TRIPLE PLAY';

you have to repeat an image 3 times."

"Can I look at your stamps?"

"Yes."

"Oooh, can I use your froggy? a.k.a....

Love You This Much FROG by ARTish

"You bet!"

and this is what she made to give to Nanny and Mr.Bill...

when they arrived later that day.

Just the day before the girlies ordered pictures and scrapbooked tribute layouts to their third grade teachers. It is so wonderful to listen and watch as their creative minds demonstrate what they've grown up seeing in daily life around the studio. I have always shared my space giving them creative freedom to express themselves. What a blessing to see it unfold daily!

Be on the lookout... Sienna and Sierra will soon be inspiring other young artists and mommies around the world to share in their passion to Create Together!

Who can you make a card with today?

so prepared for Vacation pictures...

with my latest creation...a Vacation Memories mini album...
It combines 6x6 album sleeves, card stock, pattern paper, ribbon, cork, glitter-sticker paper, and my latest digital stamp image available at The Pixie Cottage

The 'camera implied cover' of said mini album

was derived from flipping this week's Pixie Cottage Sketch designed by

Dawny P from the Pink Piggy

upside down...

The window/ Aperture portion of my creation is this week's theme at The Pixie Cottage.
You may select one or the other or combine them both
for a chance to win Rubber stamps from The Pixie Cottage.
Link back your new creation to this week's The Pixie Cottage post.
